Broomfield, Colorado, USA, August 13, 2013 — Innovyze, a leading global innovator of business analytics software and technologies for smart wet infrastructure, today announced the worldwide release of Generation V10 of InfoWater UDF, its industry-leading geocentric solution for unidirectional flushing of drinking water distribution systems. The latest release features a host of new and unique capabilities to help water utilities better manage the systematic flushing of their water distribution systems. By removing stagnant water along with mineral and sediment deposits that accumulate over time, the process effectively restores hydraulic capacity and improves water quality.
Among its numerous advantages, InfoWater UDF can help utilities improve water quality by restoring the disinfectant residual, reducing bacterial regrowth, dislodging biofilms, removing sediments and deposits, controlling corrosion, restoring flows and pressures, eliminating taste and odor problems, and reducing disinfectant demand throughout the system. These benefits prolong the life expectancy of the distribution system as they reduce the potential for waterborne disease outbreaks.
Built atop ArcGIS 10.x (Esri, Redlands, California), InfoWater UDF V10 seamlessly integrates advanced dynamic water network modeling with the latest generation of Esri GIS technology. The groundbreaking application capitalizes on the intelligence and versatility of the geodatabase architecture to help water utilities develop optimized flushing sequences for each flushing zone. Using minimum flushing velocity and shear stress criteria, it quickly identifies which fire hydrants and water main valves should be manipulated for proper cleaning without excessive pressure drops (e.g., below 20 psi), maintaining the desired level of hydraulic performance in the system.
The program accurately considers the temporal variation in flow velocity magnitude and direction caused by changes in demands, tank levels and operating conditions. It also computes minimum flushing time, total flushing volume and pipe length, flushing velocity of every pipe in the sequence, and available fire flow at the minimum residual pressure. The hydraulic impact of each flushing sequence is monitored to ensure that the desired minimum pressure is maintained throughout the system.
An accompanying comprehensive field journal (flush book) provides all the information a water utility needs to effectively implement an optimal unidirectional flushing program for superlative cleaning at maximum cost savings. A complete, detailed series of graphical maps and technical data sheets shows which fire hydrants and valves must be manipulated for systematic, unidirectional cleaning of each flushing zone and flush sequence to be analyzed. The journal also includes important information on pressure and flow, flushing volume, flushing duration and water quality.
The new release includes customer-requested enhancements that greatly increase productivity, optimize flushing design, facilitate quality flushing workflow sequences and field map generation, organize and manage work processes more efficiently, and enhance the realism of displayed results. The new version also supports multiple hydrant flushing, alternative short hydrant IDs, flexible units, and 64-bit Windows 7, while delivering blazing performance gains.
V10 allows both new and experienced users to quickly set up UDF network models and obtain flushing plans that are both cost-effective and reliable, making unidirectional flushing a far more easy and enjoyable task. It gives water utility engineering, planning and maintenance teams powerful new tools to help them produce accurate, high-quality flushing designs that are complete, effective, and ready for field implementation. These enhancements propel InfoWater UDF into the next generation, carrying on Innovyze’s time-honored practice of continually adding value to its software by bringing new, unsurpassed modeling capabilities into the mainstream, backed by superlative technical support.
“The unprecedented market success of InfoWater UDF is a direct result of our determination to respond to customer needs and provide comprehensive functionality and advanced technology along with superior speed, performance and usability,” said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D., BCEEM, Hon.D.WRE, Dist.D.NE, F.ASCE, President, COO and Chief Technical Officer of Innovyze. “Our goal in creating V10 was to deliver the simplest, most powerful and comprehensive unidirectional flushing software with the highest pound-for-pound return — far surpassing all competitive offerings. This is the ultimate tool for designing optimal flushing programs to sustain safer, more reliable drinking water supply infrastructures. We are proud to continue pushing the envelope and refining this best-in-class product, knowing that it will make an immediate difference in our lives, our communities, and our society.”
