|DENVER, November 1, 2013 – Bob Bailey, Water Business President for CH2M HILL (www.ch2mhill.com), a global full-service consulting, design, construction and operations firm, will be attending and speaking at the American Water Summit (AWS), along with other water experts from the firm. The event, held in Washington DC, from November 5-6, will bring together water utility leaders, business water users, investors, engineers and water technology companies to discuss the challenges facing the American water industry, as well as creative solutions for America’s water future.“The financial pressures on America’s water sector have inspired the industry to think differently about how we solve issues like investing in our country’s aging infrastructure and confronting the increased demand for water in our energy intensive economy,” says Bailey. “CH2M HILL is pleased to sponsor the AWS, and we look forward to contributing solutions to address the most critical issues facing America’s businesses and water systems.”
Bob Bailey will join a panel of regulators, scientists, consulting engineers and plant operators on Wednesday, November 6, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., to discuss the latest developments around the Water-Energy Nexus and critically evaluate the opportunities for water treatment technologies and services in the North American energy industry for upstream and downstream oil and gas operations, as well as power generation. The other panelists include: Heiner Markhoff, CEO GE Water (moderator); Michael Hightower, Water for Energy Project Lead, Sandia National Laboratories; Vladimir Fedotov, Principal Concept Engineer, Shell; and Ryan O. Thomas, Conceptual Engineering Manager-Environmental Strategic Planning, Southern Company Generation.
Todd Williams, CH2M HILL Global Residuals Resource Recovery Technology Leader, will speak on new and emerging opportunities for water market growth over the next three years, summarizing the current market situation in terms of rapidly growing resource recovery and wastewater treatment plant residual recycling and reuse on Tuesday, November 5, from 5-6 p.m. Simultaneously, Scott Haskins, CH2M HILL Director of Technology, Quality and Innovation, will present on a separate strand highlighting current strategies being employed by water and wastewater utilities to deliver better operational performance. CH2M HILL was recently awarded a contract by the San Diego Public Utilities Department to provide optimization consulting services to streamline the city’s water and wastewater operations. CH2M HILL has been working with clients across the United States on similar optimization projects, providing a blend of operations, management, and engineering capabilities to increase operational efficiencies, reduce costs, and generate additional revenue.
A highlight of the Summit will be a tour of the Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant (BPAWTP) operated by DC Water. BPAWTP is the largest plant of its kind in the world. Participants will get a sneak peek at the latest upgrades of the new biosolids processing facility. CH2M HILL has worked closely with DC Water for nearly 30 years on several projects, including designing the final dewatering facilities for the Blue Plains Solids Handling System, as well as the enhanced nitrogen removal facilities. CH2M HILL is also the lead design firm for the design-build contractor on the Blue Plains Tunnel contract, part of an ongoing project under DC Water’s Clean Rivers Project.
