Anne Arundel County Seeks Additional Funds for Stormwater Projects

Bill hopes to raise $15M annually for stormwater projects.

Anne Arundel County’s Department of Public Works (DPW) could have better funding for managing stormwater, if Bill No. 79-11  passes.

The bill, titled Stormwater Management and Restoration Fund and Stormwater Management Change, would create funding for stormwater related projects by assessing a fee on property owners. Single family homes would pay an annual fee of $35. Commercial properties would be assessed $35 for every 2500 square feet of impervious surface. The bill caps the maximum assessment for a commercial parcel at $25,000 annually.

The bill is projected to bring in as much as $15M annually. These funds would be used by the DPW to address a $1B backlog of stormwater projects.

The county is obligated by the U.S. EPA to reduce the amount of nutrients and sediment entering the Chesapeake Bay.
